UCLA vs. OSU Women's Gymnastics Meet

Well,

I went to this weekend's meet to see my old roommate, Mike and his wife Tanya (both former Bruin gymnast greats). They are the assistant and head coach at Oregon State.

I loved the choreography of the OSU floor routines (Mike says Tanya does most all of it). I missed Anna Li's bars (I thought I was taping, but was not- aaargh!), which scored a 9.95. Same happened with one of the Beaver gymnasts on bars, and I was disappointed because I liked the way she cranked her giants- almost looked like a Chinese tap for her dismount.

My videos are here. Didn't get any beam (got lazy, and didn't feel like moving any closer).

I told Mike if his team won, it would be because they were coached by two former Bruin gymnasts.

Quote of the Week

5 year old Marissa in Perfect 10's today to Christy Linder during stretches:

"I want to be a gymnastics coach just like you.....so I don't have to do the exercises"

Chainey in Mortal Combat Against Fellow Gymnastics Celebrities

Chainey's brother, Eddie, posted the following video on FB, reminding us why the '96 Olympian has earned his place in the New Mexico Hall of Fame (induction ceremony coming up, I think in March):

Eddie writes:

shout out to my brother Chainey. getting inducted into the hall of fame next month. a pioneer of the sport. a man of class, dignity, honor & faith. everything i want to be. skip all the stuff from 1:40-5:20. the legendary meaning of his name & my grandfathers legacy starts at 7:40.

~~~
what people don't know is that he broke his finger in warm ups & went on to make the olympic team. he competed throughout the olympics with the broken finger.
The video brought back memories of that time. Poking around YouTube, I found this, which I had completely forgotten about:
It was a shock to see a pair of my Muay Thai shorts on there. I forgot that Chainey had borrowed them for this. I remember how he had been working on the choreography, even within the confined spaces of our apartment, asking me for suggestions and ideas. Too funny!
I still have those shorts, btw.
HuH?!
In the 80's, I remember seeing a Japanese anime series where the main cast were involved in gymnastics.
Umm....this wasn't it:
I have no idea what the heck this is from.
Wish I knew the name of the series I was thinking of.
