What Lunchtime at SMGC Summer Camp is Really Like

The weirdest lunch food I ever did see is Alessandro eating a chocolate sandwich everyday. Ok, now color me crazy, but I have never ever heard of a chocolate spread that went on bread before, and called nutrition, let alone called a "sandwich".

Carolina pouted and wouldn't eat because she got served up chicken nuggets instead of a cheeseburger (awww...poor baby!). The other girls felt she needed to eat to keep her energy up for workout; so they tried everything they could to get her to eat, including force-feeding and bribery. Thea even gave up her grapes, which Carolina proceeded to devour. A few girls tried to sneak in a nugget into the ziploc bag of grapes, but Carolina only grabbed the handful of grapes. Anyway, see for yourself....

(Oh, and Erica? Just say "NO!" to green peppers.)

Ice Queen Under Pressure

I see Camille ice so often, I began thinking it might be fun to start collecting footage of her when she ices....then turn it into a video. I got impatient, wanting to get this out by the time of the Spring Jamboree, so I did not gather the kind of footage I really wanted. But, you get the idea....

This is the third edit, and for whatever reason, the banner title is limited in how many letters it is allowing me to print out. So "Queen" is missing the letter "n". I'm too sick of this video to go back and try fixing it again.

In the early 90's, there used to be a station called Pirate Radio. I listened to it religiously every morning during the Gulf War, living in the dorms at UCLA. One of the things they were good at were song parodies, like Elmer Fudd singing Bruce Springsteen's "Fire". Well, one of the neat songs they grafted together was Vanilla Ice's "Ice, Ice, Baby" and Queen/David Bowie's "Under Pressure". The song mix turned out a whole different animal that I liked. Then Pirate tanked, and I hadn't heard it since.

Browsing through the internet using Dogpile.com (a great search engine if ever you need to locate media and free audio files), I discovered the song mix that I included in the video. Not the same I grew up on in college, but same idea.

Waterbombs Keep Fallin' on My Head

Filmed during a slow Friday at Summer Camp, 2005. Before camp officially began, I entertained Emily by having her fold a waterbomb. The thought then occurred to me that I had never thought to fill it with water before. The traditional papercup origami model holds water; I wanted to test if the origami waterbomb does as well. Linda watched me throw it against the wall outside, and said we could do that for art. I said the kids didn't have a change of clothes, but Linda just shrugged that off. So.... since there were only a few kids in both groups, we combined them for art and a gymnastics contest. It worked out pretty well. Difficult to find appropriate music for the video.
