Not sure how much benefit this drill has; but might be a fun station for younger kids to work on their arm strength in their pre-kipping days:

Hey! The kip drill worked great! Thanks for the tip :)
Hey Lori; glad someone got something out of my posting it.
The same concept came to me to apply for a different drill setup I saw for the single-leg stride circle. You might have seen it as well: Having the gymnast lie on a block almost low bar height in the splits, and then sitting up to push into the end position of the single leg stride circle. I also had another block on the other side, so the gymnast could also practice lifting up tall into the mill circle (with the front foot landing on the block in front) and practice the beginning part of the circle.
I was using this setup for 3-4 yr old team developmental girls and found it was also a good setup for just front support positions. I had the girls work on their wrist shifts by leaning forward in the front support. Their heels would touch the block behind them, blocking them from actually falling too far forward; they could then lean back upright into the front support and work on their wrist shift.
The other variation that then occurred to me was to have the gymnast sit on the block, push up into front support as straight-armed as possible and right away into the forward lean (like for a front hip circle after the kip), then wrist shift back again to front support (like the end of the back hip circle). This is similar to the kip drill in the video.
Would love to film it if I get the opportunity to do so.
